Cost Efficiency of Residential Steel Roofing
Choosing the right roofing material for your home can be challenging, especially when considering factors like durability, cost, and weather resistance. For those looking for a robust and economical option, residential steel roofing stands out as a top choice. In this blog, we'll explore why steel roofs are a cost-effective solution for homeowners.
Weather Resistance and Cost Savings
Steel roofs are known for their exceptional weather resistance, offering a longer lifespan compared to traditional roofing materials. Made from sturdy components, steel roofs can withstand harsh weather conditions, including snow, heavy winds, and rain. Properly installed steel roofs can endure winds of up to 140 mph, making them a reliable choice in areas prone to severe weather. This durability means fewer replacements over time, saving homeowners significant costs on maintenance and repairs.
Longevity and Durability
One of the most significant advantages of steel roofing is its durability. A well-installed steel roof can last many years, providing long-term value. Additionally, steel roofs often come with a protective coating that reflects sunlight, helping to keep homes cooler and reduce the need for air conditioning. This can lead to lower energy bills and substantial savings. Steel roofs are also fire-resistant, potentially lowering homeowners' insurance premiums due to the reduced risk of fire damage. Their resistance to impacts, such as hail, further reduces potential damage and insurance costs.
Energy Efficiency and Cost Reduction
Steel roofing contributes to energy efficiency by reflecting solar radiation, which helps keep homes cooler. This reflective property decreases the reliance on air conditioning, resulting in energy savings and lower cooling costs. Moreover, adding insulation between steel roofing panels can improve a home's overall insulation, maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature year-round. This can lead to reduced heating and cooling expenses, providing further financial benefits.
Considerations for Choosing Steel Roofing
While the benefits of residential steel roofing are numerous, it's essential to consider the initial cost, environmental impact, and aesthetic preferences when deciding if it's the right choice for your home. Although the upfront investment may be higher than other materials, the long-term savings on maintenance, energy, and insurance can make steel roofing a wise investment.

The Case for Blue Beetle
A hero for the rest of us
Tumblr media
Jaime Reyes has a lot on his shoulders.
It’s an awkward place he’s been put in, by multiple factors. He stands amidst a rebooted universe, the vanguard in a world defined by the legacy of the big-name heroes that have come before him. Superman. Wonder Woman. Batman. The Flash. Aquaman. Cyborg. All of them have had their name in big marquee lights, and the first go at a cohesive DC film universe... failed. It’s not for lack of effort. Zack Snyder is as high effort as it gets. I really loved both Wonder Woman movies (YES EVEN WONDER WOMAN 1984, DON’T @ ME). But... it’s a universe that stumbled as soon as it was born. Man of Steel was a fine first outing, albeit with creative decisions that I didn’t really gibe with. However, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice was a colossal failure in almost every respect (and source of much personal anguish, but that’s a post for another day). Following that has been hit or miss, and the less said about David Ayers’ Suicide Squad, the better. But since The Flash hit the reset button on the cinematic universe, the question for all the comic fans is: what next? Where can we go from here?
And that leads us back to Jaime.
Before I go into spoiler territory, I’ll speak in broad strokes. This is a solid film. I really, honestly think it’s great and stable ground from which to build out a larger universe, but more than that, it’s the first one of these in a while that felt like it was about something. There were strong cohesive themes about family, legacy, capitalism and (failed) revolution, growing up, and navigating different cultures throughout. I’m not in the habit of giving out grades or scores, and honestly I don’t care for them. Grading is for chumps anyways. The movie speaks for itself in so many ways, and is so well-crafted, I can’t recommend it high enough. If you’re tired of superhero fare, that’s fine—the story is good enough divorced from the cool effects and sci-fi silliness of the genre. But I digress. Give it a watch. It’s fun and has given me a lot to chew on. VAYA CON DIOS, MUCHACHOS.
The Boy who would be Bug
--SPOILERS BELOW--
Jaime Reyes is a young man with frankly too much on his mind. Coming off the heels of graduating from undergrad, he comes home to the fictional Floridian city of Las Palmeras to be with his family and start his life. (Note: In the comics, Reyes is from the actual city of El Paso, Texas, which gives his setting an entirely different vibe which frankly is disappointing, but that is probably the only major change in adaptation that bugged me, which is small potatoes if we are being honest.) But Las Palmeras itself is a parable, a city divided between the rich and the rest of us. The Reyes family tells him upon arrival (and after eating some local tacos) that the family is losing the house. Rent got jacked up, and the patriarch had a heart attack and can no longer run the family auto repair shop. So, Jaime and his sister Milagro scramble to find jobs, low-paying service work for the richest and most powerful family in the city, the Kords.
The Kords, in contrast to the Reyes family, is one defined by their internal division. Where the Reyes family is instantly warm, boisterous, giving, caring, and supportive of all efforts of the respective members, the Kords are broken in multiple ways. In many ways, it’s a mirror to the Stark family of the Marvel universe: the dead patriarch built a weapons manufacturing company, the successor son wanted to get away from that in favor of more consumer-friendly tech, and in the wake of his disappearance, the overlooked sister Victoria Kord has steered the company back to its domineering and destructive roots as a weapons contractor for the US government.
A fresh take on an old structure
I think it’s impossible to talk about this movie apart from its relation to Iron Man. I’m sorry, it’s about a person who wears a super powered high-tech suit of armor and fights against a usurper who wants to continue weapons proliferation and western hegemony. That’s the plot! That’s the text! It’s built on the same bones, and you’d be foolish to not see it. However, divorced from that rough sketch, the difference is all in the protagonist, and how they relate to family. Tony Stark is an individual, largely at odds with everyone else including his loved ones. He didn’t know how to be a person, let alone a person in connection with others. He had lived his life as a rich kid, and I’m sorry, that breaks your brain a bit.
But the protagonist here did not come from a rich family. He came from an immigrant family, one that emerged out of the revolutions south of the border and escaped from them to find a new life in the US, and they have spent the past 3 generations trying to live the American dream. And finally, the American Dream has swallowed them whole. They live in a poor neighborhood slowly being gentrified by the rich, epitomized by the Kords. They are on the brink of destruction in a world that’s straining from the stress of the capitalist system on the margins of the imperial core, and they are not going to make it without a miracle. So, this is a different kind of story, built on the spine of the Iron Man model.
Coincidences happen. Jaime walks in on a feud between Victoria, current CEO of Kord Industries, and Jennifer, the lone, orphaned daughter of the missing-in-action Ted Kord, the former CEO who was interested in wacky inventions rather than weapons. Jaime tries to intervene, to be the hero he is inside, but reality is far less accommodating, and this action gets him and his sister fired.
Little Bug, Big Impact
For people on the bottom of the economic ladder, escaping your situation is largely impossible. But dammit, Jaime wants to stand up for people, and so he does what’s right, even if it comes at personal cost. That’s the through-line of the film. You do what’s right because it’s right, not because it will win you praise or security. You stick up for people, and you support your family.
Jennifer catches up with Jaime, offers to keep in touch with him, and the two make plans to meet up the next day. Wacky hijinks ensue, and Jaime winds up in possession of an alien artifact that reacts to him, yadda yadda yadda, and wouldn’t you know it, the Scarab chooses Jaime to bond with, and becomes a symbiotic high-tech super suit. You know the tropes, you know how it goes. BUT. You see this all from the perspective of Jaime and his family. When Jaime’s clothes burn off, and he bursts through the ceiling, you understand “Oh, shit, that’s some serious property damage in this rental house.” Later you even see the tarp over the hole, and the poorly re-built table that got broken in the chaos. It’s little touches like that in the film that remind you “Oh, this is the kind of world that has consequences. Problems happen, and they keep having ripple effects.”
We learn later that the Scarab was something that Ted Kord was looking for, because you see, he was secretly The Blue Beetle II, the successor to Dan Garrett, the original Blue Beetle, and original owner of the Scarab. The Scarab never chose Ted, but Ted carried on the legacy of the name. We know this because Jaime’s Uncle gives us the backstory—Blue Beetle was his favorite hero. He was “if Batman had ADHD.” Batman with a sense of humor. An inventor who was into heroics because it was right, but also because it was fun.
That’s a crucial thing I think is worth dwelling on. It’s a statement of the kind of legacy that the DC movies as a whole need to wrestle with. The last time we saw heroes, it was very self-serious. Little levity, and even less color. Superman was a grimacing beacon of power, and a reluctant messiah. Batman was an uber-fascist terrorist. Wonder Woman was a world-weary soldier who saw the worst of humanity. It was a Dark Universe filled with Serious Heroes.
Now, the first outing in this brand-new rebooted DCU? You get a kid who stumbles into it all. You get someone whose very name is defined by his color! Blue Beetle. It’s a goofy kind of name for a kind of outlandish character, but it’s one that fits. He’s a bug. He’s not a messiah, or a dark avenger, or a warrior princess. He’s a kid. A kid with the world on his shoulders. A kid who lives with his family on the ground level, not in a skyscraper or a Batcave or a fortress of solitude. He’s a kid from the poor side of town who got a lucky break and wants to fight for the little guy. That’s a statement. That’s a proper introduction to a new world. Yeah, all these titans and gods exist, but their problems rarely intersect with ours. The billionaire downtown who wants to buy up all the land in the old neighborhood? The one who wants to sell weapons of war and doesn’t care about the people that get in the way? The one who sees people as little more than test subjects or obstacles to getting profit? That’s the villain.
Rudy, Jaime’s uncle, says that he loved the Blue Beetle because he was “one of us.” That is what he meant for him, and it’s a legacy that follows the name. Jaime is now the bearer of that legacy, and that’s not meant to be a burden but a challenge. And the best part is? He’s not doing this alone.
A Family Bug
See, at some point Jaime gets captured, naturally. And who is there to bail him out? His family. All this time he’s spent trying to save and support them has not gone unnoticed. They take a bug-shaped tank, a bunch of weapons, and liberate him, while Jaime gets another shot at confronting the big bads. The final super-suit having goon gets a backstory—wouldn't you know, he’s a product of the warmongering that Victoria Kord stoked in Latin America—and it’s through empathy, relatability, and love that Jaime is able to defeat him. Strength is not in power. It’s in you and your family having each other and supporting the little guy.
I say we failed Blue Beetle, because it kind of came and went this year, didn’t it? It had the bad luck of being in the middle of a historic writer’s/actor's strike, and so promotion was stifled. But it’s also a C-list hero that nobody had ever heard of, with the biggest actors in it being Susan Sarandon and George Lopez.
The thing of it though, is that kind of was how Iron Man started too. Iron Man, before the 2008 film, was a C-tier superhero. Robert Downey Jr. was a has-been washed-up actor. Yet it exploded in popularity. I wish Blue Beetle got the same treatment. It deserves a second look. It’s fun, energetic, and has real stakes and real story to it. It has a lot to say about our current moment from the position of living at the margins of society, and I really can’t help but say that we need it right now. We need fun. We need hope. But more than anything, we need solidarity. Love, empathy, solidarity—these are the things which give us strength. And that’s what Blue Beetle has in spades.

Quicklime Prices Trend | Pricing | Database | Index | News | Chart
 North America
Throughout the first quarter of 2024, the Quicklime market experienced a bullish trend as the downstream construction sector rebounded, leading to increased demand for construction materials. This growth, combined with supply disruptions caused by extreme weather conditions and interruptions in shipping routes like the Panama Canal and the Red Sea, resulted in higher freight costs and pushed prices upward.
The market remained bullish in February 2024, driven by strong orders from the downstream steel sector and rising production costs. The global steel industry saw an uptick in new orders, particularly in Asia, leading to a surge in exports, employment, and purchasing activity. Overall, the Quicklime market in this quarter correlated closely with the construction and steel industries, with increased demand driving higher prices.
Comparing the year-over-year price change from the same quarter last year and the change from the last quarter of 2023, the market saw a significant price increase in Q1 2024. Conclusively, the final price for Quicklime (CaO) CFR Texas in the USA in Q1 2024 was USD 218/MT.

APAC
In Q1 2024, the Quicklime market in the APAC region witnessed mixed pricing dynamics. While the overall market situation remained stable, China experienced pronounced price fluctuations. The pricing trend in China was primarily driven by strong orders from the downstream steel sector and increased production costs. However, market sentiment was cautious due to sluggish transactions and the impact of rainy and snowy weather on downstream construction activities.
In terms of supply, the Quicklime market had moderate availability, with most mainstream factories raising their prices or reducing discount rates due to increased raw material costs. On the demand side, the market experienced low activity, with sluggish transactions and inventory levels reflecting increased inventory maintenance. Market sentiment was cautious, with limited new orders from merchants and a decline in construction activity. Overall, the Quicklime market in APAC saw a bullish trend, with the price of Quicklime increasing by 5.4% compared to the previous quarter. This increase was primarily driven by firm orders from the downstream steel sector and rising production costs. In conclusion, the final price for Quicklime (CaO) FOB Qingdao in China for Q1 2024 was USD 195/MT.
Europe
The pricing dynamics of Quicklime in the European region during Q1 2024 were influenced by various factors beyond the conventional top influences. The overall market trend was bearish, with prices declining throughout the quarter. The market situation in the Netherlands, where price fluctuations were most pronounced, played a significant role in shaping pricing dynamics. The construction sector in the Netherlands faced challenges, including a lack of new projects and a decline in demand for building materials, leading to decreased purchasing activity and job losses in the sector.
Additionally, disruptions in ocean routes and delays in raw material deliveries affected the supply of Quicklime in the European market. These factors contributed to a moderate supply of Quicklime but also led to increased costs for manufacturers. Seasonally, the first quarter typically sees a slowdown in construction activity, which further impacts pricing dynamics. The correlation between pricing and market conditions remained evident, with a bearish market leading to lower prices. Comparing the pricing dynamics to the same quarter last year, there was a decline in prices, reflecting the challenging market conditions. Similarly, compared to the last quarter of 2023, prices decreased, highlighting the continued downward trend. In conclusion, the final price for Quicklime FD Rotterdam in the Netherlands for the quarter was USD 160/MT.

Baytown, Texas, is in Harris and Chambers counties, forming part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. Located on the northern edge of the Galveston Bay complex, it is near the confluence of the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou. It ranks as the sixth-largest city in the metropolitan area and the seventh-largest community, including The Woodlands CDP. Major Baytown highways include State Highway 99, 146, and Interstate 10. According to the 2020 U.S. census, Baytown's population was 83,701, estimated to have grown to 84,324 by 2022.
The area now known as Baytown saw its first White American settlers in 1822. Among these early settlers was Nathaniel Lynch, who established a ferry crossing at the junction of the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou, a service still in operation today as the Lynchburg Ferry. Other notable early settlers included William Scott, one of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred, and Ashbel Smith, who owned a plantation in the area.
Initially, Baytown consisted of three separate towns. The first, Goose Creek, was named after the nearby bayou where Canada geese would winter, a name still reflected in the Goose Creek school district established before 1850. The discovery of the Goose Creek Oil Field led to the development of the rival communities of Pelly in the late 1910s and East Baytown in the early 1920s, both emerging as early boomtowns. The "East" in East Baytown was later dropped as it was located west of Goose Creek.
Discussions about merging the three cities began shortly after World War I, but Baytown initially resisted. However, in 1947, the three towns agreed to consolidate under Baytown, officially forming the city on January 24, 1948.
In 1916, the Humble Oil and Refining Company, founded by former Texas governor Ross S. Sterling and his associates, developed the Goose Creek Oil Field, establishing Texas's first offshore drilling operation and the second in the United States. The company later built the Baytown Refinery, one of the world's largest Exxon refineries. Today, ExxonMobil remains a significant employer in the city, operating over ten plants in the area, including a newly announced $2 billion expansion to its chemical facilities in 2019.
The discovery of oil spurred significant population growth in Baytown and the surrounding tri-cities area. This period saw an influx of immigrants, including Jewish families who established the K’nesseth Israel synagogue in 1930.
Steel manufacturing in Baytown began in 1970 when United States Steel opened the Texas Works near the city. The plant was closed in July 1986 due to economic challenges and the decline of American steel in the 1980s. Jindal Steel acquired the facility and now operates as JSW Steel USA, Inc.

Nephilim End-Times Strategy: Artificial Intelligence’s Role in the Last Days
What will life be like in 20 years? What forms of energy will be available to us?
Breakthroughs in science will transform our lives. Many of the innovations will use atomic energy. There will be quantum computers billions of times more powerful than today’s PCs. Some inventions are already interfacing with contact lenses that will beam data into our eyes.
Technology is advancing from every direction and is moving faster with each passing day. There will be an increase of knowledge in the last days:
“... close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge” (Daniel 12:4, NIV).
The Hebrew word, “to increase,” means to multiply. In other words, there shall be an explosion of knowledge.
3-D Printing
Imagine printing a solid object, into a 3-D format. 3-D printing is a device that manufactures a three-dimensional object, layer by layer. Instead of ink, it uses plastic, metal, nylon or other substances. On a standard printer, a nozzle passes over the paper that builds a picture line-by-line. The nozzle on a 3-D printer lays down layers of material that builds a solid object.
Most manufacturing processes produce things by cutting and drilling, removing material until what remains is the desired size or shape. 3-D printers do the opposite, adding to the item in stages until it’s complete. This makes it very efficient, as there is almost no waste.
The potential for 3-D printing is huge. Some have described it as the third industrial revolution. Today, companies use 3-D printing to make prototypes of items they intend to manufacture. For example, 3-D mockups of new shoe designs are printed in order for designers to see what works and what does not work. This allows them to make the necessary revisions before they create the actual shoe, which greatly speeds up the preproduction process and saves a lot of money.
But there is a dark side to this amazing invention. How do you stop people such as criminals or terrorists from using 3-D printers to produce illegal items? Guns, which were built from over 30 stainless steel and nickel parts, have already been printed and tested in Austin, Texas. They are lethal weapons and can be used by good or evil people.
Self-Driving Cars
There are technologies that exist on vehicles today such as cruise control, lane guidance, assisted brakes and automated parking. Self-driving cars are being tested on U.S. roads, and there is already an automated car system in place at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal Five in England. Even with all of the questions we might ask, self-driving cars around the world are proving to be more capable than human-driven vehicles.
Power Without Wires
Technological advancements mean there will be no need for cables to plug into your mobile devices to charge batteries. The future of wireless power is on the horizon. Presently, one is able to place their phone on a charging mat and the battery replenishes itself. This is an important invention for charging electric car batteries. Electric cars will refresh their batteries while they drive past a recharging station without stopping. A wireless future could be more imminent than we think.

Robot vacuum cleaners roam the house without human supervision. Today, robots can run like a cheetah and even make their own decisions. Amazingly, they can even look like real human beings. One robot, if it’s knocked over or stumbles, can regain its balance, as well as walk on slippery ice without falling.
Hollywood movies about robotic creatures are a dime a dozen. The progressive growth of robots and drones pose a serious threat to society, which could limit one’s personal privacy and civil liberties, as well as basic human rights. The benefits of such innovations will be eroded by the development of new robot technologies for monitoring, checking and following humans. How do you think the antichrist will use such technology?
Soon, we are told, fully autonomous machines could be fighting our wars and selecting kill targets with no human intervention. How robots affect our future remains to be seen, but the fact is they provide us with the possibility to go beyond the limits of human progress. It may not be very long before colleagues are made of steel, rather than flesh. The U.S. military is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into bionics research, partly because of military victims who have lost their limbs.
Artificial Limbs
Technological innovation is advancing the limits of what modern prostheses can do. For salamanders, losing a limb isn’t so bad because they just simply grow another one. Scientists are busy studying salamanders in order to pin down the biological process behind the regeneration capacity, in the hope that one day it will be replicated in humans. Recently, a man who lost his nose to cancer had it replaced with one that grew from stem cells. In a north London hospital, scientists are growing noses, ears and blood vessels in the laboratory in a bold attempt to make body parts by using stem cells.
Man-Made Limbs
The human brain makes 100 trillion calculations per second. By 2050, we are told a desktop computer will have the equivalent processing power of 9 billion brains. We are in the midst of a powerful acceleration in computer technology, and when computers gain artificial intelligence, with the ability to reason and communicate ideas like a human can, it will change everything. The question is, will computers dominate humans or will humans still control the Earth? Within 30 years, science will produce the hardware and the software to create super human intelligence. These machines will be vastly superior to human intelligence.
Quantum Computing
Quantum models could one day replace today’s supercomputers. We are heading toward smaller, faster processors with more hard drive capacity. The number of transistors on integrated circuits is doubling every two years. Quantum computing harnesses the power of atoms and molecules to perform memory and processing tasks. The potential of quantum computing is light years faster than the conventional computer used today.
Nanotechnology
Just what is a nano? A nano is one billionth of a meter. A nano is to a meter as a marble is to the Earth. Scientists are working on tiny computer chips called smart dust, which will cover the infrastructure of a city or town and monitor everyone’s moves to know when and where each and every person is at any given moment. When one enters their office building, the smart dust will boot up their computer and open doors automatically for their every move, including opening the elevator door and ringing their floor. The iPhone is an early sample of what is to come. Technology not only involves non-living microchips. It also involves biological “chips.” Nanotechnology includes duplicating microscopic molecules like the one cell bacteria flagellum for the purpose of attacking deadly diseases in the human body such as cancer cells. Nanotechnology is inevitable and is going to be a huge part of our lives soon.
The Human Genome Project
The human genome project was one of man’s greatest scientific achievements in the 20th century. The aim of the project was to map all of the genes that make up the human being, which carry the detailed instruction manual of our bodies that is within every cell. This hereditary information is coded in the DNA. It is in the DNA where the human genes are found that provide instructions essential for life. The DNA molecule contains around 24,000 genes. The project mapped the function of each gene. The benefits of this project will help in preventing disease.
This mapping will be common knowledge, just as one’s blood type can be known. As a result, medical breakthroughs offer hope to those who are suffering from inherited diseases. A defective gene can be replaced, eliminated or made inactive and a gene can be introduced into the body to help fight a disease. The genome project was an international venture with scientists from 20 countries working on it. The job was completed in 2003, 50 years after the discovery of the DNA molecule.
The dark side of this amazing endeavor is when mankind begins to tinker with human genetics, where are the boundaries? Can an embryo with a defective gene be treated before birth? That would be wonderful! But the potential side effects producing lasting complications are unknown. In humanistic hands, mankind will be able to manipulate the human body to be altered from God’s original plan.
Becoming Biological Machines?
Are we already becoming machines? We wear digital earpieces. We seem lost without our wireless devices. Contacts are now being created to fit over one’s eye to connect to the Web. Robotic exoskeletons are now being made to perform everything man does manually with great ease.
Technology empowers the disabled to live a normal life. Robotic legs can allow an individual to walk who has no physical legs. Sightless individuals now have the ability to see. Contact lenses are now being created that will provide a stream of data to guide one through life—data that is literally projected in front of their eyes. They are called electronic contact lenses. The display will not be confused with one’s perception of the world. Voiceless people now have the ability to speak, and now, we can implant chips in the brain of a stroke victim, which allows them to control a robotic arm. The computer decodes the victims’ neural signals in the brain that connects with the implanted chip. Technology is reshaping human history.
Tattooed Tech
Scientists are also working on creating an electronic tattoo that would be implanted on the throat of an individual enabling him or her to communicate with smart phones via Bluetooth connections. The tattoo would include a microscopic microphone and power source. The invention would allow individuals to communicate via voice commands without having to wear an earpiece or headset. The device would allow one to communicate in a crowded noisy room, as well as listen to music without earphones. In addition, Google’s glass technology is producing a wearable computer with a smartphone display that lets the user text, browse the Web, take photos and run other apps, all hands-free.
Artificial Intelligence
In a few decades, living beings as we know them might not be the only intelligent life on our planet. But what does that mean to us? Will these intelligent machines be able to think? Thinking is what separates men from the machines. In the latter, what goes in goes out. Whatever the machine is programmed to do, it will do, which allows it to make calculations that can even outsmart mankind. For example, artificial intelligence really captured the public’s imagination in 1997, when the supercomputer Deep Blue beat world champion Gary Kasparov at chess. The society we live in already has plenty of functional intelligent-design systems. Have you ever used the Siri app on the iPhone? It’s just a matter of time before artificial intelligence runs our lives, even though it doesn’t respond emotionally with feelings of gloom and despondency.
Artificial intelligence is inevitable. Digital creatures have been created in the computer. These computerized images make decisions on their own— when to turn, eat, rest, etc. They are able to pass on this info in their digital brains to their offspring. Each generation gets smarter, so they can survive longer. Experts claim by the year 2035, human level intelligence will exist in these robotic creatures.
Robots will look and act more and more like humans. In Japan, humanoids are being produced today in the laboratories. They respond exactly like their human twin. They speak identically to their creator, even mirroring every twitch of the eye. Robots will be commonplace in the future society with realistic humanoids, whose intelligence will rival our own. We will not know which is human when we pass one on the street or in the office.
Teleporting A Human
Most everyone has heard of Star Trek’s science fiction technology of a person being transported to a distant location through what is called a teleportation machine, commonly known as being “beamed up.” Is such an idea possible from a scientific standpoint? We all know how easy it is to copy and cut-and-paste a phrase using a computer and then send it through cyberspace on the Web. Is it possible that quantum mechanics can “cut and paste” and then transport living matter?
In 1997, a team of scientists at the University at Innsbruck in Austria demonstrated quantum teleportation, transmitting and reconstructing the state of a photon over a distance. It seems that science is attempting to accomplish what we read about in Scripture. The Bible provides examples of what mankind is attempting to accomplish in the natural—the prophet Elijah being translated in a fiery chariot (2 Kings 2), Philip being translated from place to place (Acts 8:39), and Christ Jesus’ ascension into the heavens (Acts 1:9).
Nanotechnology, Robotics and Genetics
Mankind is developing three technologies that will eventually converge and function together. First, there are nanotechnologies, which involve molecule-sized machines. These are tiny, tiny biological and mechanical microscopic machines. Second, there is the technology of robotics, which is self-modifying (altering, changing) sentient (conscious) machines. These machines are computer-driven devices that can reprogram themselves. Third is genetics, and this involves self-replicating (copying) entities (humans) that can manipulate and maneuver other mechanisms and devices.
These three technologies are destined to converge and interconnect with one another. The goal to converge these technologies is to create self-copying, conscious machines that can be directed to target diseases or specific groups or individuals. For example, a virus will be engineered that will attack only certain combinations of DNA. The evil side of this is the misuse of such technology in the hands of fallen man.

They CANT build a ginormous fucking flame diverter trench in the middle of a wildlife preserve where they promised to have a minimal environmental footprint
but instead have caused significant declines in species the sanctuary was established to protect, according to the US Dept of Fish & Wildlife.
From a June 2021 article in Texas Monthly:
Much of the land here is part of the 10,680-acre Boca Chica tract of the Lower Rio Grande National Wildlife Refuge. Kemp’s ridley turtles, the most endangered sea turtles in the world, nest on the beaches; dolphins swim in the nearby Laguna Madre. The only remaining breeding population of ocelots in the United States lives here. The last confirmed sighting of a jaguarundi in the U.S. happened nearby, in 1986, and there are rumors some may remain.
It is the birds, though, that set Boca Chica apart: egrets, falcons, pelicans, plovers, sandpipers, sparrows, and warblers, among others. There are many species of birds in the Rio Grande Valley that can’t be found anywhere else in the U.S. But it’s a hard time for shorebirds up and down the Gulf Coast. Too much development, too many vehicles, a changing climate. The Boca Chica portion of the wildlife refuge is intended to provide a sanctuary.
When SpaceX first proposed a launch site in Boca Chica, the company suggested that its footprint would be minimal. After buying up tracts of private land amid the wildlife refuge, SpaceX told regulatory agencies that it planned to launch its proven Falcon rockets at the site, along with the Falcon Heavy, the same rocket, with boosters attached. An environmental impact review conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration found that the project was “not likely to jeopardize the continued existence” of sea turtles, ocelots, and other species. But after federal and state authorities gave their approval and construction began, SpaceX changed its plans. Instead of launching the Falcon, the company would use the site as a test facility to develop its much larger and louder Starship and the Starship Super Heavy configuration. The FAA approved the company’s expanded operations, though it is now considering whether a new environmental study is required.
If the Falcon is a cigarette, the Starship is a Churchill cigar. The Falcon Heavy puts out about 5.1 million pounds of thrust; the Starship Super Heavy is projected to have more than 16 million pounds of thrust. Even when the Starship doesn’t blow up, it shakes the ground for miles in every direction. Scientists say the shock waves could potentially cause deafness or brain damage in birds; the rocket engines spit out combusted chemicals. In the aftermath of the March 30 test, there were “a couple hundred people on foot picking up debris,” Bilodeau told me, but there was still a lot of junk around two weeks later when I toured the area with her. Large chunks of twisted steel littered the tidal flats, some of them sticking out of the water. Heavy equipment may be needed to remove some of the bigger pieces.
And again, Cape Canaveral exists. Why can't SpaceX test its rocket out in the Utah & Nevada desert proving grounds like other rocket companies do in controlled rigs until they work out all the bugs, then use one of Kennedy spaceport's six launch pads? Airplane manufacturers don't build their own airports.
This article gives a good rundown of the wetlands, the species there and how previous launches impacted them before this latest debacle:
I found the thing to dunk on Elon for regarding the rocket launch.
A lot of experts in the rocket community were questioning Elon's decision not to create a flame diverter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those unaware, huge rockets like this usually have giant trenches underneath to channel the flames, exhaust, and debris safely.
NASA's Kennedy Space Center has a flame trench that is 571 feet long, 58 feet wide, and 42 feet high and is built with concrete and refractory brick and bisects the pad at ground level.
But giant trenches are costly and can make working on the rocket on the launch pad inconvenient. So Elon wanted to try forgoing the flame diverter even though he was launching the largest rocket ever built with the most exhaust ever output.
And now he covered an entire town with a layer of rocket dust.
Exploding the rocket was normal and expected.
Not giving a shit about the town around the launch site... fucking infuriating.

Harold B. Burdick House
2424 Stratford Rd.
Cleveland Heights, OH
Cleveland native Harold B. Burdick was known for designing 28 houses in Shaker Heights. Although he was best known for his English Tudor designs, Burdick stands out for his eclectic designs in Colonial, French, and Neoclassical styles.  Born in 1895 to Halbert and Mariette Bennet Burdick, he graduated from Cornell University School of Architecture and served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War I, where he became interested in aviation and served as an instructor for the U.S. Army Air Service at Love Field in Dallas and Barron Field near Eberman, Texas.
After the war, Burdick returned to Cleveland and joined Walker & Weeks—a firm known for its Neoclassical, Italian Renaissance, Moderne, and Art Deco architectural styles over four decades. While with the firm, he helped in 1919 with the design of the Federal Reserve Building on the corner of Superior Avenue and East 6th Street, and then worked with Meade & Hamilton before starting his own practice.  Burdick’s first major design came in 1924 with a 4,571-square-foot French Provincial home on 19000 South Woodland Road in Shaker Heights. Many of his Shaker Heights designs can be found on Shelburne Road and Shaker Boulevard.
Perhaps Burdick’s most unique design was his own Cleveland Heights home at 2424 Stratford Road. He designed and built the glass block International Style home in 1938. He designed the house as a prototype for an economical, quality house.  Its streamlined 1,688-square-foot design features some pioneering first for the 1930s—an electric kitchen, the first domestic use of fluorescent lighting, open spaces, and walls made of glass and mahogany panels.  The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 17, 1974, was a 2013 winner of the Cleveland Heights Historic Preservation Award, and is a featured home on the Heights Heritage Tour.  Burdick died at the age of 51 on May 24, 1947. He left behind his wife, Marjorie, and two children. He is buried in Lake View Cemetery.
Harold Burdick not only designed and built this house for his own family, but also as an example of an International Style, mass-produced home. By using modern architectural concepts and manufactured materials, he hoped to create a prototype for a mass-produced house for middle income living. The later years of the Depression in the United States saw a blossoming of the International Style – the style of Gropius and his group at the Bauhaus in Germany, and of Corbusier in France. Built in 1938 for an estimated cost of $12,000, the Burdick House is a very rare example of a Midwest residence designed according to the principles of this short lived but interesting architectural mode.
The International style shows itself in the use of glass block walls and ceiling-to-floor plate glass windows, thus proclaiming its steel frame construction. No masonry or wood construction could do this. The second floor deck over the garage with its slim curved railing is suggestive of an ocean liner, as well as the esthetic Corbusier set up in his 1923 Vers Un Architecture.  Burdick used modern manufactured materials for his construction in an effort to link home construction with mass production, thus reducing costs. There is no hardwood in the house. Stucco and flooring are laid on Masonite board and the ceilings are Celotex. All interior walls are paneled to avoid having to maintain plaster. The entire frame is supported on steel beams and the interior walls are movable.
In this American version of a “machine for living,” cabinets are built in and all doors slide into the walls on ball bearing tracks. The rooms wrap around a vertical core that contains the stairs, chimney and utilities. Yet there is ample space where it is needed, and a feeling of spaciousness for the activities of the family.  The Burdick house was built in 1938-39 as a prototype for an economical middle-income house. Modern materials not commonly used in domestic architecture at that date were used in the construction, such as Armenite (a masonite board) and linoleum, plywood and plywood veneer walls, and stainless steel. Curved deck railings and some curved interior walls suggest the modernistic aesthetic of the ocean liner and streamlined vehicles. The house is framed of steel, and its most characteristic feature is the large expanses of plate glass and glass-block windows. The house also incorporated one of the earliest uses of fluorescent lighting and had an all-electric kitchen. Located in a typical neighborhood of traditional houses in Cleveland Heights, the house stands out because of its simple rectangular shape, bare stucco walls, and large windows. Burdick lived in the house from 1939 until his death in 1947.
